Our story begins from a humble family home in Nakasero that belonged to the Jaffer family since 1927. Little did they know that in 1969 a knock from Vatican would convert their Home into a modest Hotel to host the Pope’s delegation for his First ever visit to Uganda.
Fairway Hotel was born in 1969 as one of Uganda’s first hotels, and was officially launched in February, 1971 by his Highness the Aga Khan with 50 operational rooms.
Shortly after in 1972, during Idi Amin’s regime, Fairway Hotel was taken over by the Government during Uganda’s Economic war to became an army base. Later, it was converted into the country’s first Hotel and Tourism Training Institute from 1989 to 1991.
The return of the Jaffer family to Uganda in 1990 has seen the Hotel evolve to a 100 rooms boutique hotel with conference facilities, top restaurants, pools, and beautiful gardens. Many of the decisions that have shaped this nation were made on these very grounds.
We are proud to be a part of Uganda’s rich history with a business that stands the test of time. As we continue to define Uganda’s hospitality, we pledge to always strive for excellence by staying innovative, to provide a comfortable home for our guests and to continue supporting our local communities.
The breakfast was amazing with abundance of beautiful fresh fruit, delicious African spiced tea (also coffee and tea and fruit juice), different pastries every day, a selection of cooked breakfast dishes and friendly cooks ready to make things to order. Definitely a highlight. I had an executive room which was well appointed with balcony and view into a courtyard. The staff were very friendly, the swimming pool ideal. The attached Asian restaurant was good and convenient too. The renovations were disruptive only on the Saturday, but then they need to do them sometime.
Yes they are undergoing renovations and yes that means very slight inconveniences. So??? I had an awesome room at a great price. I was greeted and complimented at every turn by the staff. They pay attention to detail in the rooms. Bed and pillows were super comfortable. Shower was fantastic! Pool is large and clean. Breakfast buffet is huge and varied… Thanks to Claire in Reservations too!!!
Yes the Fairway is under construction and there are small inconveniences but the Staff is doing the best they can. Mr. Sharma (Night Manager) upgraded me without any hesitation, the new room is well appointed and the decor, a function is perfect! Rachel and Lillian in Customer Relations are great at helping organize activities. I enjoyed the Uganda Golf course across the street. Dinners outside at the Asian Fusion restaurant were fantastic and the atmosphere was awesome. Lastly, I did all my souvenir shopping right at the stores on the grounds. My only regret was not adventuring in Uganda, I was too comfortable here!!!
Stayed for 6days in second week of January’18. The rooms are renovated newly good rooms. Asian Fusion is an excellent restaurant especially for Indian food and also you have another rest. The rooms are in quite affordable range. Location is central from where easily you can move for your meetings. The best thing is that the staffs are very co-cordial. Mr. Sharma, Manager took me to the hospital as I had some problem and took care very well.
Fairway hosted a group of us for a conference in July 2017. The executive rooms were extremely comfortable and the service could not have been better. The conference facilities were clean and spacious, and we had a dedicated waiter and IT support. Wifi was reliable (if sometimes slow) throughout our stay. Food was decent Ugandan fare at the main restaurant and delicious Indian and Chinese at Asian Fusion. Breakfast was fine and includes cook-to-order omelettes. Great location – easy walk or cab ride around town. We all enjoyed staying here – would definitely use again in Kampala.
we are at the Asian Fusion restaurant last night in a big group and the food was amazingly good! and we had the full fusion – starting with chinese chicken, and guacamole (separate dishes!) – then a full Indian main course, with dal, vegetarian, rice, naan, butter chicken, mutton, fish in a lovely coconut sauce etc etc and ended with a sizzling chocolate pudding which was delicious! The restaurant has recently been revamped and is very attractive. All in all a good evening – and I will return. I can’t comment on the hotel as we were just there to eat, but I now that the hotel is being rehabilitated too.
Stayed here about 15 months ago and needed a convenient hotel on my recent visit. Decided to inquire via email – response quick efficient and clear on booking price etc. Thank you reservations Team! Breakfast offering, to my mind, has improved and was fresh – one of the best omelettes I have had for years from many an Africa hotel chef! Dined at the Asian fusion on two nites – also tasty food – waitrons attentive and helpful with choice. The Patriarch may have passed on but he can be proud of the standards as provided by current management. Check out at 0500 seamless.
